A close
shave... |
| |
|
Mr. A was an energetic, young and bright
sales executive for a multinational corporate body. He was
married a couple of years back to the lady he was seeing for
last four years. They were blessed with a bonny baby a year
after their marriage. On a sunny bright Monday morning while
on a business trip his self-driven car landed up in a
head-on collision on a national highway. It was a bolt from
the blue for this happy family. |
| |
|
In an unconscious state Mr. A was rushed
to a private hospital equipped with all modern facilities.
Then it was a long grueling battle for the medical team and
Mr. A which spanned for almost one month. Neurosurgical
medical and orthopaedic input were provided with
physiotherapy back-up. It was a day of great joy for Mr. A
and his family when he eventually returned home physically
fit to carry on with his normal life ever after. |

|
Unfortunately, this initial euphoria did
not linger. Though initially Mr. A resumed his work but soon
started being absent, more often than not, in his office. He
started complaining of sleeplessness, having nightmares, at
times muttering to self, fearful of driving his car,
reclusive, remorseful and irritable. In order to calm his
nerves Mr. A resorted to alcohol making the situation even
worse. |
|
|
|
The medical team was consulted who
prescribed him some sedative medicines. The situation
worsened as one day Mr. A consumed alcohol along with
sleeping tablets which made him unconscious within a couple
of hours. |

|
Luckily for Mr. A this time he was
conveyed to our Armenian Church
Trauma Centre (ACTC) by a blue-light ambulance.
He ‘could be fatal’ respiratory depression was efficiently
managed by an expert team of medics here. However, as we
believe in holistic patient-care, we wanted to do a root
cause analysis in to Mr. A’s presentation. When the problems
Mr. A was facing in his post-discharge period from the
previous hospital were revealed to us, we wasted no time but
referred him to our psychiatric department at
ACTC. |
|
|
|
Following a psychiatric assessment Mr. A
was diagnosed with Posttraumatic Stress
Disorder. He was provided with appropriate medications,
counseling and psychotherapy. Gradually Mr. A recovered from this
ailment and the friends and family appreciated getting back the
‘old’ Mr. A, the one they were acquainted with prior to the
road-traffic accident. |
